Richard is a Bristol-based illustrator, comic‑maker, and creator of odd images that look as if they’ve wandered out of a dream, picked up a cup of tea, and made themselves comfortable. When not devising scenes that hover somewhere between the everyday and the fantastical or sketching odd-balls, he’s busy helping students as a Programme Lead in Illustration for Comics or Lecturer in Media Production, encouraging each of them to build worlds, characters and narratives as individual as they are.
Alongside his work on the collaborative comic universe of BLAGS, Richard continues to expand his storytelling through Broken Lenses. A graphic‑novel project with a more moody atmospheric narrative, that still offers plenty of quirk. Part one of the 2-3 book series was published in 2024 as Broken Lenses Book 1: Rain, Rain… Go Away! A 70‑page comic book that features Super 8 film, mysterious cassette tapes, airships, storm wizards, and an unreasonable amount of rain.
Richard’s creative universe is forever in motion: part sketchbook, part storyboard, part cinematic fever dream. And there’s always another creature, concept, or strange moment waiting in the wings, ready to step onto the page.
